PD 3280/PD 3285 P-NET REPEATER

APPLICATION 

The PD 3280/85 P-NET Repeater Module is of a collection of distributed process control units, intended for use within the P-NET Fieldbus system. It provides a transparent amplifier on the P-NET and is mainly used for communication over long distances, and in applications where a galvanic separation is desired.

PD 3280 has three P-NET interfaces following the RS-485 format. Each of these interfaces are able to communicate over a distance of up to 1200 m. Normally the P-NET has to be connected in a physical ring but by using the termination components in the module, this will not be necessary.

PD 3285 is an extended version of the PD 3280. In addition to the three P-NET interfaces on RS-485 it has an interface for a duplex optical fiber. Using the optical fiber makes it possible to communicate over a distance of up to 3100 m.

Compact design and outstanding environmental specifications makes the P-NET Repeater Module an ideal process component in industrial as well as other environments.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION 

The PD 3280/85 modules are transparent from the P-NET Fieldbus, i.e. addressing modules through a repeater is done without any regard to the connected repeater.

Using i.e. the PD 3280 module makes it possible to extend the cable length on one P-NET up to 3600 m. (1200 m. on each P-NET interface).

When the P-NET has been idle for at least 11 bit periods all P-NET interfaces are configured as input. When one of these inputs receives data this P-NET will remain as input and all other P-NET will be configured as output. Now all data received on the input terminal will be transmitted on the output terminals.

PD 3280/85 is approved in compliance with the EMC-directive no 89/336/EEC. Test limits are determined by the generic standards EN50081-1 for emission and EN 50082-2 for immunity. PD 3280/85 is approved in compliance with the IEC 68-2-6 Test Fc standard for vibration.
